Today our holiday gift is an extract from Yoga for Healthy Bones by Linda Sparrowe with yoga sequences by Patricia Walden (one of my favorite teachers!). This extract provides detailed instructions with photographs for practicing Patricia’s basic sequence for preventing/reversing bone loss.
You can find the rest of Yoga for Healthy Bones at Amazon, Indie Bound, or your local bookstore.
Follow Yoga for Healthy Aging on Facebook ° To order Yoga for Healthy Aging: A Guide to Lifelong Well-Being, go to Amazon, Shambhala, Indie Bound or your local bookstore.
Thank you for sharing the sequences from different books.
I am surprised to see "standing forward bend" and "wide angle standing forward bend" which would be contraindicated for anyone with osteopenia or osteoporosis. Please note studies which instruct teachers to limit forward bending because of increased risk of vertebral fractures. Source: International Journal of Yoga Therapy — No. 23 (1) | 2013 17

I believe this sequence is not a therapeutic sequence for people who actually have osteoporosis or osteopenia, but is rather a generic sequence for building bone strength.
But it is good to point this out, as the extract doesn't contain that warning (which is likely to be elsewhere in the book).
