This chair version of Thread the Needle pose makes this stretch for your hips and gluteal muscles, including the piriformis, accessible to more people. If you find this version too easy, you may want to look at my videos of this pose on YouTube for versions of the pose that you do lying down or sitting on the floor.

What about "threading the needle?" This seems more like Chair Pigeon. Couldn't you reach through and interlace behind the standing leg's thigh or in front of the shin with a neutral spine? Thank you for your continued exceptional videos and instruction.
Thanks for writing in! You could certainly do a forward bend hinging from the hips and interlace as you would for reclining Thread the needle to create more stretch. The challenge is making it a pure hip hinge and not a forward rounding of the lower spine, which can be potentially problematic, especially for those with lower back issues.
Try it with a little forward fold to increase the stretch!
This is a chair version of pigeon pose (or figure 4 when supine) for hips, but doesn't reflect a "thread the needle" pose which targets shoulders.
