So much of the work that we women do is invisible. Very often when someone is shining, there a woman behind the scenes who is making that possible. And as a writer, this woman spent most of her professional life helping men who couldn’t write well express their ideas with clarity and power, both in the high tech field and in the yoga world.
So I thought on International Women’s Day I’d join the “Day Without a Woman” strike by telling you what this blog would be like without a woman: completely empty. Because this one woman does all the behind-the-scenes work, including editing and formatting all the posts, choosing the art work, indexing the posts, moderating the comments, dealing with technical problems, answering emails to the “team,” maintaining the Facebook page, and so on. And when she gets sick, this woman does the same work from her bed.
For many reasons—some of which I still don’t understand—it has taken me decades to find my own voice and to even believe that I have anything interesting and/or important to say on my own. In fact, I still struggle with this. However, when we started this blog, I not only did the work to make it possible for everyone else to be his or her best but I also finally started to speak up myself, under my own name. So thanks to all of you who have made it clear to me—and many of you do—that you appreciate what I have to say!

Nina, thank you for all the work you do on this blog! I use ideas from here for my personal practice as well as for teaching.
Me too, Nina. What would we do without you? Your work is not only appreciated by me but by all my students and friends who benefit from this blog as well. Forever grateful,
Susan from Montreal
I love your contribution to this blog, it's so important to have a woman's voice and perspective with yoga, and many other matters as well! I grew up in the late 60s, and 70s, they were what I consider my informative years. I was lucky, blessed enough to have a gym teacher who had just gotten out of college. She taught us yoga poses without calling it that, they were "stretches". Having that exposure as a young person, has continued to my life. Miss Coleman had a huge influence on my life, and I am a yoga teacher today having carried part of that very special woman with me to this day. Happy International Woman's Day, Nina!
Dear Nina, Also remember that behind the articles that we menfolk submit (Brad, Baxter, I and others), there's your hand as well. Thanks so much for your selfless and unconditional service to the yoga community through this blog. Keep the great work going.
Thank you for all you do on our behalf. This blog is wonderful and I am often sending in on to others as there's so much valuable info contained in it.
Thank you Nina for your vision and willingness to do what it takes to keep this community going. It is much appreciated!

Thank you, Nina. I love the blog and find new ways to appreciate aging and my body through the insights that you share. I understand how difficult it can be to feel as though our behind the scenes contributions are of value. But, like you, and because of women like you,I'm finally beginning to appreciate my talents and myself.
Yes, Nina, this blog wouldn't exist without you. Thanks for your good work on it, which affects so many of our old lives in such positive ways
Nina, I so appreciate the artwork in combination with the wise words.

Thanks for all your work and also for speaking out about about the work of women being invisible. I very much appreciate hearing your voice.
